What is an assisted living community?

An assisted living community offers a home-like setting where seniors maintain freedom, dignity and choice while getting assistance with activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing, and medication reminders. Residents enjoy the privacy of their own spacious apartments, while they and their families gain peace of mind from knowing that professional caregivers are there to help meet changing health care needs.

Three meals daily, weekly housekeeping, and 24-hour staffing frees residents from daily responsibilities, letting them relax and enjoy a liberating new lifestyle. A complete calendar of crafts, activities, wellness programming, trips and entertainment brings tremendous variety, not to mention many social opportunities, into the lives of residents.

Friends and staff members are never far away at a Springpoint assisted living community – in fact, care staff are on-site 24 hours for emergency response. That means no more worries about unreliable home care companions. And, safety hazards such as hot stoves or dangerous stairs are eliminated in a senior-friendly Springpoint assisted living environment. Residents and their families can stop worrying!

How does life at a Springpoint assisted living community differ from living in one’s own home?

Assisted living residents are at home – just without the chores and worry! They stay as busy or relaxed as they like, in private apartments to enjoy and furnish as they wish. We provide around-the-clock emergency response and 24-hour security; full maintenance inside and out; groundskeeping and more. We take over the chores and responsibilities, giving residents the freedom to embrace an enriching new lifestyle.

What is the difference between an assisted living community and a nursing home?

Assisted living is ideal for seniors who need a helping hand with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing and mobility. Nursing homes are more suited to those who need round-the-clock medical care. The assisted living environment is very much like that of a private home, with features such as carpeting, lamps (rather than fluorescent lighting), comfortable furniture in a variety of cozy “living rooms” and residential decor. Nursing homes tend to be much more institutional in appearance.

Can an assisted living community accommodate those with Alzheimer’s disease or other kinds of memory impairment?

Springpoint assisted living communities offer unique, secure living environments and specialized programming, called “Connections,” for residents with memory impairment. Close supervision, gentle encouragement and soothing surroundings help residents live each day to their fullest potential. (Haddonfield Home does not offer a separate memory care neighborhood)

How do I know if assisted living is the best lifestyle choice for me or a loved one?

Springpoint assisted living communities always welcome visits from seniors and their families. Caring, knowledgeable marketing representatives will answer questions about life at the residence and describe how staff can meet specific resident needs. Please feel free to discuss costs, including any additional expenses that may not be included in the monthly fee, such as transportation or additional care. During your visit(s), be sure to take into account your direct experience with staff and make note of the way that staff interact with residents. The information and impressions you gain from these visits will help you judge whether assisted living in general, and a specific community in particular, is the right lifestyle choice.

Can residents custom-decorate and personalize their apartments to reflect their own taste?

Absolutely! We encourage residents to furnish and decorate their apartments as they like. In fact, each community will even assist new residents in hanging pictures and arranging furniture during their move-in period. Each apartment comes with a kitchenette* complete with mini-refrigerator and microwave oven. And, every apartment has easy access to a washer and dryer for residents who choose to do their own laundry.

*Haddonfield Home does not offer kitchenettes but residents are welcome to bring their own mini-refrigerator for their apartments. Each floor also has a refrigerator and microwave reserved exclusively for resident use.

Can I have overnight guests?

As part of our commitment to making residents feel completely at home, we welcome children, grandchildren, friends and relatives to visit anytime! Guests may enjoy meals in the dining room for a minimal charge and share with residents in the enjoyment of their new community.

I’m interested. What is the next step?

Prospective residents must first complete an application while at the same time, his or her physician completes a report about the individual’s overall health. In this way, we can understand how best to meet your health needs—and we’ll be sure that our community is the best environment for you! A member of the staff, usually the move-in coordinator, guides residents and their families through the entire process, including offering assistance on move-in day. Their goal: to make sure that the move is a very pleasant experience!

What is the Springpoint Senior Living Foundation? How does it benefit assisted living residents?

The Springpoint Senior Living Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Springpoint organization. The Foundation helps to fund a variety of programs and service enhancements for residents of Springpoint assisted living communities, as well as helping to fund special events and activities. These include assisting in the purchase, maintenance, and operation of motor coaches; supplementing medical services such as occupational and physical therapy; helping to provide life-long learning and other education programming; and contributing toward pastoral care and chaplaincy programs. Springpoint assisted living communities may also apply to the Foundation for program grants or to address specific resident needs.

What are the costs?

Residents pay a one-time community fee, which is refundable if he or she moves out within 30 days.

Along with the community fee, residents (or a designated financial agent) will pay a monthly service fee. The monthly service fee is comparable to a rent payment, but covers a multitude of unique conveniences and services that would cost much more if purchased separately.

What happens if a resident outlives his or her resources?

Springpoint seeks to work with residents and their families in every way possible to avoid a disruptive lifestyle change. This process begins before move-in, with a thorough financial assessment process and an open discussion of costs with residents and their families. Despite these measures, if a resident is at risk of depleting resources, he or she may be eligible to participate in the state of New Jersey’s Medicaid waiver program. If a resident finds that he or she is not eligible for supplemental help or Medicaid, we encourage that person to turn to family members for support.

What would happen if my community were no longer financially viable? Would another company take over? What would happen to my money?

Because of its strong financial track record, Springpoint considers it unlikely that any of its communities would suffer financial difficulties.

Within the senior care industry, the course of action under such circumstances has typically been for the troubled community to be acquired by a new provider. The new provider typically acquires the resident contracts and the entrance fee rights and obligations and carries on operating the community much as before.
